NEW RELEASES FROM INSURGENCE RECORDS!

Coming in March 2010!! Check the INSURGENCE RECORDS WEBSITE for more info and some tunes!

REDSKINS: The legendary Redskins were an early-80′s sensation that garnered mainstream attention in England as well as inspiring a whole new generation of antifascist bands. This retrospective set collects early CNT Singles and demo material in a digipack of previously unreleased tracks, including material from the band when they were formerly known as ‘No Swastikas’.

HOLD A GRUDGE: Hold A Grudge drop their most powerful release yet as they ensure hardcore fans get more of the unmatched sound and fury they’ve come to expect from the close-knit Montreal scene. HAG’s love and respect for the punk, oi! and hardcore subgenres are evident here as the band manage to deliver a cohesive and energetic audio attack that smacks you in the face with originality. Guest vocals on ‘Time’s Up’ by Chaney (Inepsy), who is also responsible for the cover artwork.

CLASS ASSASSINS (You’ve Got It All Wrong): Following a lengthy hiatus, the Assassins are back with a new studio full length. A lot of blood, sweat and beers went into this and the end result is something that was truly worth waiting for. And if you haven’t seen them play live lately, you should really do something about that. They’re a phenomenon.

THE CLASS ASSASSINS: (Going The Distance):

Released in tandem with their latest studio full-length, this digital-only album contains B-sides, Versions and Rarities, completely remastered. Only three of these tracks have been previously released! In our humble opinion, some of the previously unused tracks on here rival the ones that were actually used on albums. A must for all Class Assassins fans as well as newcomers wanting to get the complete lowdown on these guys.

THE CLASS ASSASSINS – “YOU’VE GOT IT ALL WRONG” – NEW ALBUM

THE CLASS ASSASSINS are without a doubt one of my favourite bands and they’ve got a new record out in March on Insurgence Records…”You’ve Got It All Wrong” finds them in fine form; 13 tracks of top-shelf streetpunk sing-a-longs bursting with their patented catchy-as-hell choruses and rapid-fire delivery.

Check out the tune “Open Your Eyes”…it’s right there to your right on the Boxnet music player…

Open Your Eyes

It’s not always good to me.
It’s what I make it.
New opportunities – I think I’ll take them.
Lately I’ve found myself stuck in this comfort zone.
I know if you ask yourself –
you’d tell me I’m not alone.

Step outside – take a look around you.
So many opportunities that surround you.
You can be an anything that you want to.
So long as it’s what they want and what they choose.

You end up doing what they want you to.
(open your eyes)
You end up doing what they told you to.
(open your eyes)
You end up doing what they want you to again.

How many times have you said to yourself?
That your days are numbered through this living hell
How many promises did you not keep?
By living an easy life on easy street.

THE BRAT ATTACK: “ANOTHER HOME RUN FROM REBEL TIME RECORDS”

Review of THE BRAT ATTACK from AMP MAGAZINE (June/July 2009):

“Out of Winnipeg, Manitoba comes the one-two punch of radical politics and catchy powerful punk courtesy of THE BRAT ATTACK. Bango! Kids, this is it. This is music to energize and inspire you into action. With some razor-throat vocals a la Jake from FiLTH and …some tight, high-energy melodic hardcore/punk a la early PROPAGHANDI and GOOD RIDDANCE you have a winning combination that does not miss. This disc is laced with great songs, but I would say the blistering lead number “Spark” and the female-led “Merchants Of Beauty”were among my top favourites. Another home run from Rebel Time Records. Keep your eye on this up and coming Canadian label (RK)”

Here’s a link to the video for “Merchants Of Beauty” off of “Those Who Sow Sorrow Shall Reap Rage”:

TURN IT DOWN STATEMENT ON “NORTHERN AGGRESSION” SAMPLER

From the folks at TURN IT DOWN! A CAMPAIGN AGAINST WHITE POWER MUSIC

Throughout our ten-plus years of tracking and fighting hate across music subcultures, the Turn It Down Campaign has also made it our business to recognize and support bands and labels who take strong stands against bigotry.  As necessary as it is to track those who would hijack our scenes to promote hate, it is equally crucial to work with antiracist efforts.  We have published extensive resources, assembled rosters of bands and other elements of the music industry who support our efforts, and worked closely with touring bands to share information and ideas.

Now we’ve taken it a step further.

Earlier this year, word trickled out that Tightrope Records – headed up by Bryant Cecchini, formerly of Resistance and Panzerfaust Records – planned a follow-up to the 2004 Project Schoolyard compilation.  While we’re happy to report that this sad sequel attempt to recruit youth to the white power movement has made barely a ripple, its release started a conversation between Turn It Down and Insurgence Records.

Insurgence has long been known as one of the most vital voices in the antiracist scene.  The Toronto-based label has produced such overtly anti-fascist bands as The Oppressed, Klasse Kriminale, The Press and The Prowlers.  Insurgence was just as irate as we were to learn that the racist fringe would once again target our youth with a collection of (truly awful) music.  So we decided to do something.

And now, a few months after that conversation began, we’re proud to announce the release of Northern Aggression: Project Boneyard Volume II – a compilation of hardcore, punk and more that Insurgence asserts is “without question, the best collection we’ve ever compiled.”  Turn It Down and Insurgence have pooled our efforts and resources to categorically answer the efforts of those who think music fans and youth can be so easily won over by lousy music and idiotic ideology.

This comp is stellar.  For starters, it has made us love hardcore again has renewed our faith in smart street punk.  We’ve found a bunch of incredible bands we didn’t know, and we’ve rediscovered a few we hadn’t heard in a while.  More than anything, though, Northern Aggression has proven that plenty of people will readily take a stand against hate in our music scenes.

This is where you come in.

While we’re thrilled and proud that so many great bands have stepped up, we need music fans to join the fight.  We want to get this comp out there in as many hands as possible, and we need your help to do that.  We’ve worked out a number of ways for you to get copies of Northern Aggression.  If you’re looking for a copy for yourself, go to www.insurgence.net, where you can get a copy free with any order, or on its own for a mere $3.

But we’ve also set our sights bigger.  We want to hear from bands, venues, fans and others who can help us get the word and the music out there.  Below you’ll find information on how to get bulk copies of the comp for as little as 50¢ each.  Send us your order, and we’ll send your discs right out, along with some Turn It Down buttons.  You can pass them out to friends, or if you’re a band, you can give them away or sell them for up to $3 at your merch table.  It’s up to you.  But for all of you who’ve been asking how you can help, this is a huge opportunity to do so.  Let’s show the bigots that they can’t have our scenes.

NORTHERN AGGRESSION: PROJECT BONEYARD VOLUME II

From the Project Boneyard Myspace (The Class War Kids are on this. Available from Rebel Time Records for just $3.00)…

Insurgence Records has teamed up with the Turn It Down Campaign and a host of bands, show promoters, crews, and individuals to bring you: Northern Aggression – Project Boneyard Volume II. The scene is stepping up again to challenge the spread of fascist propaganda (and bad music) like Project Schoolyard, a lacklustre sampler CD crapped out by a US-based bonehead label in an attempt to recruit youth to the white power movement.

Our subculture has always played to the tune of ‘having a laugh and having a say’. Our message to the fascists: Get out of what was never yours to begin with. The kids on the street won’t be fooled, and we will never abandon turf to self-serving freeloaders like you and the muck you spread.

Fans of real street music: Enjoy the music and smash fascism wherever it rears its ugly head!

See the Project Boneyard Myspace for more info about the sampler and the campaign:

Cheers!

TURN IT DOWN!! CAMPAIGN AGAINST WHITE POWER MUSIC

From the TURN IT DOWN: A CAMPAIGN AGAINST WHITE POWER MUSIC MYSPACE:

Back in 2004, now-defunct Panzerfaust Records came out with a marketing tool that demonstrated the organizational potential of the racist right: Project Schoolyard USA. The project focused on distributing a compilation CD of white power music to as many American youth as possible, both via internet sharing and physical distribution at schools, malls, and other locations with large concentrations of kids and young adults. Project Schoolyard saw a distribution as high as 50,000 copies. We ran into incidents of distribution in schools here in Chicago.

The motto for Project Schoolyard didn’t mince words: “We don’t just entertain racist kids. We create them.”

Check out more details, including sample lyrics from songs on the compilation, at TOLERANCE.ORG.

We wish the story ended there.

It seems a second installment of the compilation now exists. As reported by the Southern Poverty Law Center and confirmed by our research, Bryant Cecchini, one of the two original architects of Project Schoolyard is behind the new 25-track CD, being distributed as we write this to kids all over the country by white power associates of Cecchini, a.k.a. Byron Calvert. According to an interview for SPLC’s Intelligence Report, Cecchini is also sending the disc out with all orders on his Tightrope Records website, as well as using seemingly benign fake MySpace pages to lure possible new recruits.

Check out the SPLC’s coverage of the story – including Cecchini’s complete comfort with the potential for his project inciting violence against minorities – at SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER.

This is huge, and not in a good way whatsoever, to say the least. The white power factions in the US have been disorganized and relatively ineffective in recent years. This CD represents a renewed effort.

But both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Turn It Down Campaign, among a number of other organizations, were there to fight back against the distribution of the first Project Schoolyard disc. We’re already working on responding to Volume II. We’re in talks about a couple of different options for a counter-compilation, possibly aligned with Insurgence Records, who put out the fantastic Project Boneyard compilation in 2004. We know a lot of our supporting bands and industry friends have expressed excitement about a project like this; we’ll definitely keep you updated as we go forward.

For now, know that this is out there. Know that the racist right is targeting the places you or the young people in your life hang out, hoping to use music as a vehicle to recruit and instigate hate crimes. Know that they plan to crash our concerts, skate parks, and other hangouts. Know that they’re specifically targeting youth in areas that have experienced racially-charged incidents recently.

DEFINITELY let us know of any distribution in your area.

Insurgence Records responded to the original Project Schoolyard with a free compilation of it’s own called Project Boneyard. You can download the Project Boneyard CD for free as well as read about the campaign, HERE.
